Privacy Policy
The Anomaly Record · theanomalyrecord.com
This Privacy Policy explains what information The Anomaly Record ("we", "us") collects, how we use it, how long we keep it, and how you can have it deleted. It covers both this website and the Anomaly Record Editorial Publisher, our internal tool for publishing episodes to our own YouTube channel.
1. Who we are and how to reach us
The Anomaly Record is an independent documentary channel. For any question about this policy, about data we hold, or to request deletion of data, write to privacy@theanomalyrecord.com. We respond within 30 days.
2. Information this website collects
This website does not require an account and does not run advertising. We collect:
- Server logs — IP address, user agent, requested page and timestamp, generated automatically by our hosting provider for security and abuse prevention. Retained for 30 days, then deleted.
- Messages you send us — if you email us, we keep the message and your address for as long as needed to answer you and to keep a record of corrections raised by readers.
We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site trackers, or third-party analytics that profile individuals. Web fonts are served by Google Fonts, which receives the request as part of loading the page.
3. The Anomaly Record Editorial Publisher
The Editorial Publisher is an internal tool. It has no public sign-up, no external users, and access is not sold or resold. It is used exclusively by our own editorial team to publish finished episodes to the single YouTube channel we own and operate.
3.1 API Services we use
The Editorial Publisher uses YouTube API Services. By using our services, you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. Google's handling of data collected through these services is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
3.2 What YouTube data we access
When an authorised member of our team connects their Google Account to the Editorial Publisher, and only with their explicit consent through Google's OAuth consent screen, we access:
- Channel identity — the channel ID and title of the channel being published to, so the tool can confirm it is publishing to the correct channel.
- Upload capability — to create a video, set its thumbnail, attach caption tracks, and add it to a playlist. Every one of these actions is triggered by an editor pressing Publish, never automatically.
- Public statistics of our own videos — view counts, watch time and audience retention for our own channel only, used to populate an internal editorial dashboard.
We do not access any other channel. We do not read, collect or store data about viewers, subscribers, commenters, or any third-party channel. We do not use YouTube data for advertising, for building profiles of individuals, or for sale or transfer to any third party.
3.3 OAuth tokens
To keep the connection active, we store the OAuth access and refresh tokens issued by Google. They are held encrypted at rest, on servers we control, and are used for no purpose other than the actions listed above.
4. How long we keep data
- YouTube data accessed with authorisation is refreshed from the API and is not retained beyond 30 days from collection, except for aggregated public statistics of our own videos, which we may retain for up to 36 months for editorial performance analysis, as permitted by the YouTube API Services Developer Policies.
- If a user revokes our access, we delete all data obtained through the YouTube API for that account, together with the stored tokens, within 7 days.
- Server logs: 30 days.
5. How to revoke our access to your Google Account
You can revoke the Editorial Publisher's access to your Google Account at any time, without contacting us, from Google's security settings page:
https://security.google.com/settings/security/permissions
You may also ask us directly to delete any data we hold about you, by writing to privacy@theanomalyrecord.com. Revocation and deletion are free of charge.
6. Third parties
We use service providers to host this site, host our editorial systems, and generate narration and illustration for our episodes. These providers process data only on our instructions. We do not sell, rent or trade personal data, and we do not share YouTube API data with any third party.
7. Where data is processed
Our systems are hosted in the European Union. If you contact us from outside the EU, your message will be processed there.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict its processing. Write to privacy@theanomalyrecord.com and we will comply within 30 days.
9. Children
This site and the Editorial Publisher are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. Our video content is not made for kids.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and change the "last updated" date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the description of our published episodes.
